I entered the sport of bike riding in 1992 when I was 11 years old. I have raced pretty much all cycling codes but now cyclocross is my true passion. I always had the desire & motivation from a young age to train hard & I still do to this day. I love the process of training in any choosen sport - fine tuning skills & techniques and researching products & equipment that I can trust.
My racing list is pretty light nowadays with family life plus running a side hobby business painting bike frames. I am always keeping active & enjoy running plus gym sessions so when it's time for a choosen event I lock in a few months of hard training to get tuned for it.
My future goals are to race as long as I can in Elite cyclocross & reach 10 National podiums haha, I have 4 more to go & I feel as the sport grows which it is - it will get harder but I like a challenge.
Bikes in your garage: Trigon CX01 cyclocross bike, Scott Scale 930 MTB, Crucial Custom Cycles steel road/gravel bike.
Favourite Biomaxa Product: Biomaxa Bio-wash to keep my bikes looking shiny👌
Favourite Food: Freshly made Sushi.
Favourite place to ride: Rata Ridge in Wainuiomata, this was my on doorstep for 4 years, steep, rough, rocky & rooty. Raw mountain biking at it's best.
Best cycling memory: Has to go back to 1999 as a Junior racing track cycling, my first National title on home ground winning the Points Race over 25km. My year of racing included Hayden Roulston who came 3rd with Joe Chapman 2nd. It was my last race of a weeks racing to prove I was worthy of a World Championship team spot & nailed it.
Top/most notable results: 3x NZ Elite Men Cyclocross Champion, 1999 Junior Points Race Champion, 2009/2010 2nd place Elite XC MTB Champs, 2nd & 4x 3rd placings Karapoti Classic
Aspiration (What you dream about achieving on your bike): A dream I had 20 years ago was to be the best al round bike rider in NZ. I have achieved National Champs podiums/titles on the Track, MTB, Cyclocross & Criterium/Road. I raced internationally in 4 cycling codes over near 30 years. Now my dreams are to help push younger riders to achieve their goals. I am more than satisfied with what I have done in bike racing.
To relax I: Enjoy family time with my lovely wife & 2 daughters. Also painting bike frames as a hobby which I started 3 years ago under "Velo.creations Paintwork"
If you weren’t riding/racing bikes – what do you think you would do instead? Two sports I have always enjoyed dreaming about is Snowboarding & Motocross/Trail Riding. I love a good offroad run too, I love intensity & a hard challenge in sport.
